INTRODUCTION

Sunday May 15th and Saturday May 21st, 2011

For the first time the World Vintage Softball Carnival has created a dedicated Fastpitch Carnival. The Vintage Fastpitch Softball Carnival will be staged in the City of Surrey, part of the metro Vancouver area in British Columbia, Canada between Sunday 15 May and Saturday 21 May, 2011.

Open to players aged 35 and over, the Vintage Fastpitch Carnival is designed to bring together Mens and Womens teams for a fun week of friendly competition on the diamonds and lively mixing and mingling off the field.

The standard of softball is as competitive as teams wish to make it recognizing the age, agility and experience of the players taking part. The emphasis is on inclusion not exclusion and endeavouring to ensure that all teams and players enjoy their opportunity to play against teams and players from various parts of the world.

In the previous two Carnivals we have welcomed teams from Australia, New Zealand,England, Ireland, Canada and USA and individual players from South Africa and the Netherlands. Almost all the teams and players have recognised the principles of Vintage Softball and play games in good spirit.

Vintage Softball is most definitely not a Masters Tournament. There are winners and losers, trophies and prizes but the emphasis is on good fun competition, enjoyment on and off the diamond, playing softball in exotic, desirable destinations and experiencing local conditions and facilities. Though all teams play to the best of their ability and to win best they can, the enjoyment of the game and meeting new people and teams is as important as the final results.

Vintage Softball is designed for the players and following the 1st two Carnivals a number of suggestions from teams and players have been adopted and incorporated in our planning. In a departure from previous Carnivals, teams will play only 8 games but all games will be of 90 minutes duration. The rules have been clarified and simplified as a result of representations from teams and designed to maximize enjoyment and participation.

The 3rd World Vintage Fastpitch Carnival will be played at excellent facilities in the City of Surrey, British Columbia. The Carnival hosts include the Cloverdale Minor Softball League who under their dynamic President, Jim Ullock will ensure that all facilities are up to acceptable international standard. Jim will be assisted by Rick Benson, the extremely professional and enthusiastic District Minor Co-ordinator of District 7 of Softball British Columbia.
Dene Dormer of Queensland, Australia will again be Carnival Manager of Softball and building on his experiences of the two previous Carnivals is determined to ensure that all teams, players, officials and supporters enjoy their celebration of the great game of softball amongst teams and players from various parts of the softball world.

All visitors can be assured of a true Softball experience with the Carnival being supported by local softball identities who intend to make the 3rd Vintage Fastpitch Softball Carnival the best yet.
